Zhenya Alexeeva

Evgeniya G. Alexeeva, MD, worked as anesthesiologist in critical care departments of Moscow children clinics for 14 years. In 1986 she took part in the first joint Russian-American expedition to Caucasus Mountains and became an active participant of the citizen diplomats’ activities between Soviet Union and USA.

Since that time she has been actively working for democratic change in Russian society. She quit her medical practice in 1990 to develop empowerment trainings in Russia and NIS countries using Empowerment model worked out by Gail Straub and David Gershon. Since that she has designed, facilitated and co-led over 400 workshops and trainings on personal and social empowerment; group process and facilitation; communication skills development; consciousness raising work for women; nonviolent conflict management; organizational development; and others. These trainings have been attended by thousands of people across the former USSR and other countries. Many of the workshops and trainings were done for multi-cultural audiences and co-facilitated with American and European trainers. She cooperates as a consultant and a trainer with many national and international organizations working in NIS. She was one of the founders of the non-profit organisations “Golubka”, “Focus” and “FOCUS-MEDIA”

Since 2002 she is a Director of the “FOCUS-MEDIA” Public Health and Social Development Foundation and plays a leading role in development and implementation of Russia-wide informational HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns among youth. She has written and published 15 brochures and books; translated into Russian and published the book of Gail Straub and David Gershon “Empowerment: The Art of Creating Your Life As You Want it”.

Evgeniya participated as a key-note speaker in many large scale international forums and organized several international conferences and seminars in Russia.
